Life On The Road | The Ultimate Plan To Travel By Car

From my own experience, there is simply no better way to travel than by car. I have been lucky enough to experience; camping, hostels, hotels, overnight buses/trains and walking yet travelling by car topped them all. From my previous experiences of travelling both England and Australia, I have a lot of knowledge to share with you.

I’ve decided to write a post so I can share the good and the bad with you all. There is so much that comes with owning a car whilst travelling, most you wouldn’t even consider. I’m hoping that the mistakes I’ve made in the past can help you to not make the same. That way you can have the best time without having the stress and worry that comes with your trip.

I’m not going to lie, my experience of travelling and living out of a car was fantastic. My ex-boyfriend and I purchased an old 4X4 Toyota Hilux and began to do it up. Within the next few months, we were up, running and on the road. However, this story isn’t all fun and games and I want to share with you the importance of servicing and maintaining your vehicle. Otherwise, you could end up like me and break down 400km from any civilisation in the middle of the Australian Outback.

Traveling in car

There are so many things you need to look out for when purchasing a new car. Nobody wants to be that person who invests a lot of money for it to all go to plot 6 months later. Believe me, been there done that. If you are anything like me you have no idea about mechanical machinery, you know those things that have four wheels and go broom broom, well carry on reading.

For me, if it looks good on the outside and the engine turns on then it’s got to be fine right? well, that’s where I’ve learnt never to listen to myself because I am wrong.

So if you’re like me and lack the knowledge to do with cars it’s always best to ask the professionals. This can be costly but there are many great companies out there that do offer the service at a reasonable price. You’ve just got to search around and find the right ones. Luckily you have me and I’ve had some good experiences with some fantastic brands.

So what do you need to do before you purchase your next pride and joy and head off on that adventure?

Look Carefully At The Car’s Exterior and Interior

(And that does not mean pimp out your ride with cute flowers and pretty cushions like me)

Servicing Your Car

If you aren’t entirely sure that your vehicle is safe I would always recommend getting it checked. You can book regular car servicing from Ossett Tyre House. A company I have first-hand experience with when it comes to MOT’s and the Servicing of your vehicle. Not only do they offer a wide range of services but they have the experience and support to go with it. As a lady that doesn’t know much I have this fear of people taking advantage, however, I felt nothing but sincerity from this company.

Go For Test Drive

Although this doesn’t show the quality of the car it will give you an idea of the comfortability. You are going to want a vehicle that has space for your belongings as well a vehicle you will feel comfortable travelling in. As you can see by the picture above we settled on a large vehicle which was very long. This was due to us actually deciding to sleep in the vehicle if the weather was bad. Now you couldn’t do that in a Fiat 500 so make sure you’re sensible with your choice.

Perform Leak Tests

Don’t ask me how to do this because I have no idea. All I remember is that this caused us a lot of problems when travelling as our Toyota had a leak prior to purchasing. If you aren’t 100% satisfied, there is nothing wrong with asking to perform Leak tests. Generally, if there had been any previous leak problems that had been fixed they will normally be left in cars log book. But as from previous experience, this isn’t always the case.

Still Not Satisfied???

Have a mechanic inspect the vehicle for you. You can’t go wrong by asking the professionals themselves I mean, it is their job after all. Even if you just head in for a quick vehicle diagnostic

Now you are all ready to get those plans into action and head off on that adventure of a lifetime. The process can seem scary, but I can assure you with the help of the professionals, you can’t go wrong.
