I have decided to spend some time creating posts where I can share my experience as a blogger with you all. Whether you are a brand new blogger, been around for years or just interested in my story. I would like to share my experience in the blogging industry. Making money from blogging can sound scary and daunting but I’m here to guide you through the process.
I have been blogging for a 1 year and a half now. Originally I never started with the intention of making money and to be quite honest I didn’t even realise that would be possible. Blogging for me was just a platform where I could express my thoughts and feelings and meet people just like me.
I’ve never been somebody who is private about money, I’m very honest and open with sharing. I’m super proud of how far my blog has come and I think it’s good to share your pride. Especially when you have worked so hard and it can help benefit other people.
It’s not easy and it’s not an overnight success but if I can do it then believe me, so can you!
So you plan on making money from blogging?
Well, here is my advice.
Find your social media platform
People say it’s not about numbers and I really wish this was true but unfortunately if you want to make money, numbers do matter. By all means, I’m not saying you have to jump from 5 to 500,000 followers to get noticed because that isn’t true. But you should have some connections to present when companies want to collab with you.
I find that the best way to do this is to find one social media platform that you like and stick with it. For me, I’m all about that tweet tweet birdy lifestyle, twitter is my pride and joy! However, if you asked me to explain how you ‘Pin’ something on Pinterest you’ve got no hope of getting an answer. There is more chance of me showing you my left bosom than me using Pinterest to successfully promote my blog.
Make genuine connections with other bloggers
Once you’ve found the right social media platform for you, go and introduce yourself to other fellow bloggers. It’s always good to meet new people but find people with similar interests as yourself. If you are a beauty blogger go and interact with people who blog about make up, this is the best way to find your audience.
If you are struggling to meet people I can really recommend joining blogger chats. Blogger chats are held at specific times and days depending on the account. They are usually held for an hour or so where a blogger will hold discussions and ask questions. This is great because everyone can get involved together. As well as this, it is also a brilliant way of meeting new people in the blogging community.
Here are a few of my favourite chats that I like to get involved in when I have spare time;
Monday: Bee Chat @ Twitter – 17:00-18:00
Tuesday: GRL Power Chat @ Twitter – 21:00-22:00
Thursday: Bee Chat @ Twitter – 21:00-22:00
Friday: The Blogger Chat @ Twitter – 19:00-20:00
Saturday: Pretty Little Bloggers @ Twitter – 18:00-19:00
Sunday: GRL Power Chat @ Twitter – 21:00-22:00
As silly as this sounds, the best thing to do is just be yourself and before you know it you’ll create friendships.
Sponsored posts are a great way of making yourself a little bit of income. For me, any opportunity is great regardless of payment however, it’s always lovely to make some cash. There are a few different ways you can get in contact with businesses, here are the three methods I use.
- I tend to use websites such as Lifestyle blogger UK and Bloggers required. These are websites which companies will advertise PR and other blogging opportunities. I have worked with many people from these websites and have had great experiences from this.
- The second method I do is make sure I place my email address on as many of my social media platforms as I can. I have my business contact information placed in both my Twitter and Instagram bio. Companies aren’t going to waste time hunting for your details therefore, this way is a great way for them to contact you easily.
- Using hashtags on Twitter are also very effective methods. I often look through #bloggerswanted and #bloggersrequested in search of sponsored and PR opportunities.
Create a media kit for your blog
‘Media kit’ is a term I’ve only recently come across in the blogging world. A media kit is a document containing information about your business, product or event. It’s a document that you will use to inform companies of your blog statistics and anything else that you can bring to the table.
If you wish to see an example of what a Media Kit should look like, feel free to fill out the form below and I shall be able to email across a few examples that I use for my own blog.
If you have any specific questions about Media kits make sure to leave it in the message box and I can personally email you any help for free.
There is no subscription with this, just a genuine girl offering some genuine advice.
Don’t ever sell yourself short.
Last but not least, do not sell yourself short.
You and your blog are as good as you feel and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Don’t ever be afraid to tell businesses what you want and expect because believe me, you are doing them a favour.
Stay true to yourself and do not ever promote products you haven’t tried and wouldn’t recommend to your best friend. If you wish to build a sincere name for yourself make sure to be kind, be honest and most importantly be YOU.
I wish you all the best of luck in your blogging career. If there is anything I can do to help support you along the way make sure to drop me a message and let me know.
