Lush Christmas Range Review – Blogmas Day 7

As many of you who follow my social media will know, I am a huge fan of Lush cosmetics. I think Lush is an amazing business that supports great causes, are extremely passionate about their work and has great aims and principles. Lush is a fantastic company that not only supplies us with beautiful products but at the same time stands for everything I believe in.

The company itself states on their website and I quote “At Lush, we pride ourselves on our creativity, and this does not stop with our products. Since the beginning, our aim has been to use the best, safest and most beautiful ingredients”

The company itself is a prime example that we do not need to be careless and harmful in order to achieve and produce great products. Lush’s ethical buying policy and their fighting animal testing are beyond powerful, I think if a lot more companies followed the same principles the world would be a better place.

Anyway, enough of the protests. The main purpose of today’s post was to share the new products I have recently purchased from the Christmas range at Lush. I am a huge fan of both their bath bombs and their bubble bar range and I am always trying new ones out. I will admit I haven’t always liked them all but I am a huge fan of a fair few and have continued to purchase time and time again. Due to it now being December and me 100% being in the Christmas mood, I have treated myself to one of each. That way when I go home from university for the Christmas holiday I can finally have a decent bath.

The first one I decided to purchase was the Christmas Sweater bath bomb (£4.50). Although this was one of the pricier bombs they have, I decided to purchase it because it was cute, Christmassy and pink. Anyone who knows me well will know how much of a girly girl I am and how much I adore anything pretty and pink. The thing that got my attention with this one was the scent, it smelled absolutely divine with a very strong sweet scent. I can’t stress enough how much this bomb was worth the money, every 450 pennies that went into the purchase, I do not regret a single one.

The second and final product I purchased today was the Candy Mountain bubble bar (£2.65). I will be honest, I do prefer a bath bomb but you can’t go wrong with a bubble bar every now and then. The thing I love most about a bubble bar is that you only need to use a little bit and they last so long. This one caught my eye in the store because it was so pretty and reminded me of their unicorn horn bubble bath they brought out for their valentines’ range last year. Anything pink and glittery will win me over so when I saw this one it was automatically in my basket.

If you’ve never been to Lush and tried a bath bomb I highly recommend it you making it one of your top priorities this winter as you will not be disappointed. I really hope you enjoyed this short and sweet review of the products I purchased. I simply cannot wait to finish university and head home for Christmas now, not only do I get to see my family but more importantly get to have a bath. Hope you are enjoying Blogmas so far and stay tuned for day 8 tomorrow, Only 18 more days to go.

The Winter Tag – Blogmas Day 6

As we all know I love a good tag so here goes Blogmas day 6 with The Winter Tag. I think tags are sweet and simple and such a good way to get to know each other. I hope you enjoy this little read and if you wish to get involved too, I will copy & paste the questions for you below, if you do happen to get involved, feel free to link me your blog in the comments as I would love to have a read.

QUESTIONS:

1) What are your favourite things about Winter?

Although Winter isn’t my favourite season of them all, I am a big lover of the cold. If Auturm didn’t exist I would be a huge winter fan. I just love the idea of getting home and snuggling by the fire with a hot cup of tea. There’s just something so great about wrapping yourself up like a burrito and not moving for hours. So yes my favourite thing about winter is the fact you get to snuggle up on the sofa with your family and binge watch films and eat an extreme amount of chocolate.

2) What is your favourite Winter outfit?

I am a lover of a fluffy jumper, some nice jeans and a pair of boots. Every single year in winter I will purchase a new pair of winter boots. Although this does start in Auturm I am a firm believer in buying lots of matching beanies and scarfs. I have around 6 pairs of matching beanies and scarfs from this year alone.

3) What is your favourite Winter food?

I don’t know if this is because I’m British but I love a good Sunday roast. Although, this is an all year round thing I think you appreciate it a lot more when it’s cold and Winter.

4) Favourite Winter drink?

As much as it hurts me to say this, I absolutely cannot stand hot chocolate. The idea of a hot chocolate sounds amazing and I honestly wished I like them but I don’t. Therefore, I would have to settle for a cappuccino with chocolate sprinkles on top.

5) What is your dream way to spend a Winter’s day?

my dream day would be to spend the day snuggled up in bed with a cappuccino and a huge dairy milk Oreo (Oreo specifically). I would binge-watch either a new TV series or I would watch loads of movies. I know this is super-duper lazy but if you had one day to spare, why wouldn’t you spend it doing nothing? it’s like the best Sunday ever.

6) How do you like to do your make-up in the Winter?

I’m quite neutral when it comes to makeup anyway. I don’t tend to change my lipsticks or eyeshadows depending on the season. Although I love makeup so much and tend to purchase a lot of it, I wouldn’t say I’m all that experienced and very good, therefore I just tend to stick to pinks/red lips with a neutral eye.

7) What are you hoping Santa brings you?

This year I have realised I’m getting older by the minute. This year I have asked Santa for home decor for my flat and although that’s literally all I want, how sad. What happened to the days you would grab an Argos catalogue and circle all the toys you wanted Santa to bring.

8) What are the first three things that remind you of Winter?

chocolate, snow and an open fireplace burning.

9) What is your favourite Winter song?

I don’t think I have a specific winter song but you can’t go wrong with the Christmas tunes. As soon as it’s December I will play every single one, loud and proud.

10) What is your favourite Winter memory?

It has to be playing out in the snow with your friends. Nothing quite beats the days where you are listening to the radio, waiting for the presenter to tell you that your school has closed. Then spending hours on end sledging, making snowmen and having snowball fights. Then ending the day with frostbite on your bum and having a cup of tea to bring you back to life.

11) What is your favourite Winter scent?

I wouldn’t say I have one but the smell of cinnamon ALWAYS reminds me of Christmas and of winter.

12) Finish this sentence… If I could have one wish this Christmas it would be…

Health and happiness for all my family and friends.

An open letter to Father Christmas – Blogmas Day 5

Dear Santa,

Another year has passed and I cannot believe it is already December again. It’s been a very long time since we last spoke and for that, I apologise for being distant. I should have written to you the last few years and this year has left me wondering why I didn’t? Although I am now 21 and no longer little you were such a huge part of my childhood, I’m sorry for getting old and letting the festive spirit die. Christmas is a time for everyone no matter how little or old you are and you should appreciate the magic it holds.

Walking home late on Christmas eve on my dad’s shoulders, looking up at the sky waiting to see if I could see you in your sleigh, traveling around and giving all the children presents. I would point up in the sky to all the ‘airplanes’ I could see shouting “Daddy, look its Santa, it’s Santa”. Within the month of December, you brought me more joy, love, and hope that I could ever imagine as a child. The memories I have of waking up at 5 in the morning, sneaking into my brothers’ bedroom giggling, until the clock finally struck 7 am and we were allowed to wake my parents up.

As you can see, I am now attempting to become a responsible adult. Although, my definition of an adult would be someone who sleeps in a Unicorn onesie the night before Christmas and leaves out a mince pie and a glass of warm milk for the man in red and the long white beard. I still do refuse to believe you’re not real, who else would explain how my presents magically appear in my stocking by morning? I remember being a heartbroken 11-year-old girl when I found out the dreaded truth and I still choose to ignore it.

I hope I’ve made you proud this year and have made my way onto the nice list. I promise you, I’ve tried my hardest to be a good girl and I like to think I am. There isn’t much I have asked for this year and as long as I’m happy and healthy that’s all that really matters. The spirit of Christmas is not about how many gifts I receive, but whom I spend my Christmas with. I am so lucky to still have the most important people in my life. I may complain from time to time but really I don’t have all that much to complain about. I am extremely blessed that on December 25th every year, I get to spend the day waking up with my brother, mum, dad and nan. That is everything I need in life and I am thankful for that every day.

Lots of love,

Ashleigh.

My Christmas on the beach in Australia – Blogmas Day 4

A couple of years ago I was lucky enough to experience a very different and unique type of Christmas. As we are in the Christmas season I thought what better way to share this with you all than during Blogmas. For many of you, you will already know that I am a huge traveller and in 2015 I went travelling around South East Asia, Indonesia and Australia for 2 years. During my travels, I decided to base myself living in Australia and I was away for a Birthday, Christmas and a New Year’s celebration. Although I hated being away from my family and friends during this time, I made the most of the experience I had and went full Aussie. Due to the seasons in Australia being opposite to us in England, their Christmas is actually summer time which was super weird as I’ve never experienced a hot December before.

(St Kilda beach, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on Christmas Day 2015)

In Australia, it is a tradition and a norm for families to go to the beach and have a barbecue. You might think I’m joking as this is so stereotypical but it’s actually true. Although many Australian families do gather together indoors, they tend to spend their time having a chilled drink in the garden with the children playing in the pool. I find this absolutely amazing as for me in England it is always extremely cold and I never take my onesie off on Christmas day.

I don’t know if you are similar to me at all but every year for as long as I can remember my parents have always bought me fluffy socks and new pjs. When I was in Oz, I told my Aussie mates this and they laughed, they replied with “Yeah, Nah, we all get new swimmers and thongs here” Which made me laugh so much. Basically, in English that means they get new swimming costumes and flip-flops. By no means is this me mime-kin the Australian accent and trying to be mean, I absolutely LOVE Australia and I am actually looking to emigrate after university. This is just my experience with Australians and I would hate to think I’ve offended anyone but if I have, I do apologise.

The 25th of December arrived and we were both extremely excited as we’d been planning this day for a few weeks now. We decided to get up early and pack our bags ready to hit the 96 tram through the city and onto the beach. We were extremely lucky as our house was directly in front of the tram line that took you to the beach in under 30 minutes. We packed a small picnic and a few tinies (Beers) to celebrate the day.

(Christmas selfie on the beautiful St. Kilda Beach)

Once we got there it was so busy, I was genuinely shocked to see so many people celebrating Christmas on the beach. It was also so great to see so many people singing, dancing and drinking. Many people brought tents and speakers and made a day of the celebration. We weren’t there for the whole day as a friend of ours had a little Christmas meal for all lonely home sick backpackers and it was amazing. There were about 7 off us that turned up and we spent the day playing board games and we also did a secret Santa for everyone which was extremely cute. Although my Christmas was very different and I probably won’t experience this again, I am so happy I got to witness this and it really was a fantastic day.

The Christmas Tag – Blogmas Day 3

I genuinely cannot explain how excited I am about blogmas so here I welcome you to Day number 3 of the series. Back in the day when I was around 13/14 all I would ever do is spend my time on YouTube watching tag videos. Whether that was ‘the boyfriend tag’ or the ‘whats in my bag tag’ they were my all time favourite videos to watch. So when I was planning my blogmas posts I thought I would base one of them on this and thats when I discovered the Christmas Tag. I’m not entirely sure whether the Christmas tag is meant to be for a video but I have decided to answer the questions in a post instead. I hope you enjoy getting to know me a little bit better and I hope by the end of this post you are well and truly in the Christmas spirit. If you wish to do the Christmas tag yourself I will leave all the questions at the bottom of the post for you to easily copy and paste.

1. Favorite Christmas Movie?

You’re just going to have to bare with me with this one as i’m sorry I simply cannot just pick one, I have so many favourites when it comes to the Christmas movie selection. The polar express is always a film we watch every year and have done since I was a little girl, I just think it’s magical and so cute. BUT my all time favourite has to be The Grinch, for anyone who knows me well will know how much of a Dr Seuss fan I am. I just think the grinch is such a funny film and I can relate to him so much.

2. Are you on the Naughty list or the Nice list?

I am 1000% no doubt about it on the naughty list. I always have been and always will be however I do aways seem to get presents from santa so I must be doing something right.

3. Show us an embarrassing Christmas photo.

oh I’ll have to have a hunt for them right now and see what pictures I can find. It’s a bit of a shame that they won’t be great because all the best pictures are at home where as i’m currently 5 hours away at university. However, I’m pretty sure my mothers facebook will hold some treasures. This was the result of my hunt…

(Probably the two most embarrassing Christmas pictures blasting from the past)

4. Have you ever had a White Christmas?

I’m really not too sure, i’m pretty sure it did snow one Christmas here in the UK around 2010/2011 but if I remember correctly I was actually on holiday at the time and missed it all.

5. Do you start your Christmas shopping on Black Friday or wait until the last minute?

I have never actually been out in the Black Friday sales and i’m too sure why as who doesn’t love a bargain. I think it is more of an American thing rather than an English. I mean we do still have Black Friday sales but unless you are after something electronic I don’t think they tend to be anything to great.

6. If you could be in any Christmas movie what would it be?

1000% got to be Elf hasn’t it? like what else could it be? one, I would love to go to the north pole and two, who wouldn’t want to spend christmas in New York City. Hell to the yes.

8. Name all of Santa’s reindeer.

Dancer, Prancer, Rudolph, Happy? I don’t know. How awkward.

9. When does your family put up your Christmas tree and who decorates it?

We all decorate it together, we will spend the day with christmas music blaring in the background and my brother, mum and I will spend the day decorating the whole inside and outside of the house. Usually do this within the first week of december but it really depends on how busy my mum is at work etc.

10. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

We have had both in the past however my mum is pretty obsessed with real trees these days so we normally go and buy a real tree. In my opinion they do look beautiful but they are so messy especially when you live in a house with three cats!

12. Peeking at gifts or be surprised?

Oh I am definitely a peaker. I just can’t help myself! even at the age of 21.

13. Show us your ugly Christmas sweater if you have one.

I’m really sad but I don’t actually have one, although I did buy a Miss Claus dress one year and that was kinda cute.

14. If you could be under the mistletoe with anyone who would it be?

Does it have to be one person in particular? because I’m pretty sure I could name you half a dozen good looking guys I wouldn’t mind being under the mistletoe with haha. To be on the safe side i’m going to stick to famous people, I would say its between Justin Bieber and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. GORGEOUS!

15. Does your family have a special holiday recipe you like to help make?

I don’t think so, We aren’t massively into cooking and baking so we don’t make anything in-particularly special but we do always make ginger bread houses. Although thats mainly just for fun because I hate the taste of ginger.

16. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?

I like to think I give it 110% effort however, I’m quite bad. I always buy the extra trimmings like bows and string but I can never make them look professional. In my opinion though, whats the point all you do is rip it off after 2 seconds of looking at it?

17. Have you ever gone Christmas carolling?

When I was younger I used to sing in the church choir and every year we would go carolling. I loved it so much and I remember one year I had a little solo part singing silent night, was dead cute. Plus I used to get paid a pound to do it.

18. What tops your tree?

We have an angel at the top of our tree and it’s been the same angel since I was a teeny weeny little girl. I know everyones family is completely different and this is just my opinion but its always got to be an angel, it can’t be a star.

19. Do you make New Years Resolutions? Do you stick to them?

Always always always make them! BUT I never stick to them. I try every year and it’s always the same be happy, be healthy and i’m always miserable and stuffing my face so that didn’t work, did it.

20. You have been granted one Christmas wish…what will it be?

Whenever wish granting questions pop up, You do automatically think of stuff that makes you happy but I always try to be thoughtful and think of other people before myself. Therefore, I would wish health and happiness upon all my family and friends and make sure they all have a good life set ahead of them.
